I'm not as much concerned with the Tablet features being dropped as with Tablet features not being even more integrated into the OS and software in general. What I would have liked to hear is that because of cost/benefit issues with Tablet features on smaller displays that the Windows team is working to alleviate them. After all, the small PC market is growing quite rapidly. Turning the Tablet features off might be an OK capability in general, but you've got to watch the direction that the ball is rolling.

I also think several people reacted negatively to my picking up on this issue, because they were mainly focusing on Sinofsky's primary point about configuring Windows. He was just using the Tablet features as a case in point.

However, of all the features to pick, Tablet features, which are one of the significant differentiators between Windows and other OSes right now, I would have picked something else to make my point.

The thing is, the E7Blog is the sole messaging pathway for Windows 7 right now, so in effect it is the mouthpiece for Windows. Sinofsky is providing the Windows 7 messaging. Put another way, can you imagine Steve Jobs showing off an iPhone and turning off multi-touch simply because he can? No, he'd show something else.

Is all of this a big deal? No. And I think that's what you're getting at. For the few of us that smile at every Tablet PC we see on TV or in a movie or see someone using on stage or at the local coffee shop or classroom, I admit we can get caught up on minor little things. I'm going to try to be a little better at it.

Thanks for your feedback.

I did change hosting companies to Dreamhost. I just put up a follow-up post on the switch.

The process of transferring really wasn't too difficult and only took a few hours. I went to the iPowerWeb admin interface and downloaded the latest backups of the WordPress databases. I then used FTP to transfer all the files from my iPowerWeb account over to the newly created account on Dreamhost.

For testing, Dreamhost does let you set up mirror domains on their "dreamhoster.com" domain, which let me confirm that everything was working before I changed the DNS records for my domain. It did take about 12-hours or so for the domain request to be fulfilled. I'm currently in the process of having the domain registration moved over to Dreamhost as well, but that hasn't been a different process at all so far.

I found your site because I was looking for other blogs on ipower. I am having the same issues as you, but your site seems to be flying in speed compared to my blog. Have you found a new host? Do you have any thoughts on transfering your database to a new blog?

I haven't actually tried using it outside. I have used it in a few areas where there was a fair amount of glare (mainly restaurants with lots of windows) and found it to be more usable than my eo was, but still a bit difficult to read.

I'll have to try taking it outdoors and see how it does.

Great review! Much was written early on about the brightness of the screen - some said it was usable outside in the sunlight. How about your experience outside with the current hardware?

Wow that was fast! Thanks a lot for this post - I'm pretty much sold for the Vye. Now the only question is S37B or the soon-to-be-out S41 (with integrated DVD-burner) but I'm still leaning towards the S37B.

Thanks for the positive comments! I'm a terrible procrastinator when it comes to writing, but I actually do have my next post in the series (a report on using the Vye as a music player) almost finished. I'll try to get it published in the next couple days.

In a nutshell, I'm still really happy with the Vye after a month of use. I've found that I use it much more extensively than I did my eo and I overall think it was a great purchase.

Jeffrey, I loved these three blog entries on the Vye S37B.
Easily the best and most in-depth "review" of this machine I have found yet.

Since I first read them in January I've been looking out daily for the next entry ("more to come") but without luck.

Are you still planning to continue this series, or have you run out of things to say about your Vye? Or at least in a nutshell, how do you like your gadget after one month?
Thanks!

I bought my Vye a couple of months ago. The first thing upgraded was the memory from 1gig to 2gig. The upgrade was simple, pop off the back cover and insert the memory. The system came with Vista. The second upgrade was to insert a memory card and take advantage of Vista's ready boost (4gig card). Boot up is quick. Most of the 120gig hard drive stores music (80gig) and I use Mixmeister Fusion to play my dance music.

Great product! I also have a OQO2 and Tabletkiosk. I use the the Vye everyday.

Hey Jeffrey. Loved the review. I to have a Vye (SH8 actually with 2GB) and I love it. I'm still using the original Vista install which is Japanese. I'd dearly love to re-install with vLite and am hoping that you might get around to doing a Vye specific tutorial sometime. Food for thought.

If theirs one thing that I've done with my SH8 that is the smartest move I've made, it's the installation of Origami. It's really sweet. I find that the SH8 is fantastic for playing movies on and this came in really handy on a recent 23 hour flight (including transit lounge waits). I have two extended batteries and as I carry the laptop in my car or in a over the shoulder satchel, the weight has never been an issue.

I hope your review goes some way towards convincing a lot more people to consider purchasing a Vye/SH8. I think it's a seriously underrated device.
